Job description

As a Swahili teacher, you will be a life vest for bilingual students as they look for stability in navigating language barriers while pursuing the uplifting effects of education. In partnership with other classroom teachers, your targeted efforts during the school day will equip these students with the support needed to understand Swahili, comprehend their studies, and successfully pass standardized tests.
Roles and responsibilities
· Fluently speak academic English and Swahili to communicate and successfully build comprehension in Swahili effectively.
· Educate students on proper grammar, including verb tense and complex sentence structure in Swahili.
· Build deep comprehension through literary analysis of ideas, point of view, tone, plot development, etc., while reading in Swahili.
· Prepare students to successfully articulate their comprehension, ideas, and opinions in properly organized essays and drafts in Swahili.
· Lead excellent, engaging academic instruction in sessions ranging from one-on-one to upwards of six to eight students.
· Build a rapport and work collaboratively with full-time instructional staff to adapt your approach and mold the lesson plan to the individualized needs of the students.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior.
* Continually evaluate and record various aspects of students’ progress and report to parents as needed and required.
* Teach within the NCDC course of study for the subject area at a termly basis as prescribed in curriculum book.
* Understand and plan lessons leading to subject area objectives and assume the responsibility for written lesson plans for substitutes.
* Provide a variety of planned learning experiences using a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
* Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve health, attitude, and learning problems.
* Be available for counseling of students and provision of career guidance.
* Share the responsibility of interpreting the educational programs to the community through such activities as open house and PTA meetings.
* Participate cooperatively with the principal to develop the system by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with the Uganda MoES education guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
* Keep accurate records of student information; compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required by the school, district and Ministry of Education and Sports.
* Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Requirements:
* Swahili Language Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent from an accredited university
* Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
* Demonstrated knowledge of various routine tasks, duties, and procedures and the ability to follow specific instructions with little or no previous experience.
* Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
* Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
* Computer literate (skills)
